Outdoor Fountain Types

Probably the most popular type of fountain of all the various guises available today is the wall fountain. These types of fountain are ideal for almost any area as they are not that big in size; almost any type of wall space can accommodate a wall fountain. Because these fountains can also be fairly compact, they can prove to be an excellent choice for adding to any garden without the worry of them taking up too much space. As with most fountain types that are available on the market today, wall fountains come in many weird and wonderful shapes, sizes and designs, and, as well as this, many different materials can be used in their construction meaning they can fit into literally any style of garden.

Adding a water feature to any garden is very often that finishing touch that it required to make it perfect, often bringing a totally new look to your outdoor areas. Contrary to popular belief, having a water fountain doesn't necessarily mean that it has to dominate your landscape; many smaller versions are available that can be fitted in discreetly almost anywhere.

Over the years, the outdoor water fountain has changed in function. Years ago it was predominantly used as a bird bath, but owners started becoming savvy and adapted them as stylish ornamental pieces for their gardens. Down the years the materials used to construct the fountains has changed tremendously as well, going from stone and marble to steel and fibreglass designs. At the end of the day, the size of a garden is going to dictate the size of fountain that is ultimately placed into it, but some of the bigger designs are absolutely perfect as a stunning centrepiece to any outdoor area.

The problem nowadays is that because there are so many designs and sizes of fountains - literally thousands - choosing one for your particular garden can prove to be a difficult undertaking. Maybe you have a garden with an unusual shape with lots of difficult to access areas; in this case why not choose a corner fountain? This would also be ideal for reducing the space the fountain will actually take up.

Bird bath designs are still quite popular today though, and many owners like to see themselves doing their bit for nature as well as improving the aesthetics of their garden. It's amazing the diverse numbers of wildlife that actually use a birdbath, despite what the name implies. Standalone fountains are also becoming very popular for patios, decking areas and verandas, and these also can be as simple or as intricate in design as required.

Many of the more modern designs take a rather Far Eastern influence, as opposed to the classical Ancient Greek or Roman designs that were more popular in the past. Ultimately though, it doesn't matter what design you decide choose; the outdoor fountain is going to make a huge impact on both your garden and your property in general.
